Custom development quote

For custom work, a serious estimate needs a half day of scoping. It is free if the project goes ahead.

DQ-04

Order of magnitude

As an order of magnitude, a first version usable in production sits between 12,000 and 40,000 dinars. This is not a quote: only scoping produces a figure that holds.

What moves the price of a custom build

Custom work is priced by screens and by rules, not by users. A data entry application with six screens and two roles stays modest. The same thing with cascading approvals, a full audit trail and per department rights moves up a category.

Integrations are the line that surprises people. Every system to connect, accounting, payroll, a production machine, an online shop, behaves like a small project of its own: documentation to obtain, a test environment, error recovery.

The third factor is how precise your request is. A process already written down, with its edge cases, gets built fast. A need discovered screen by screen costs more, and that is logical: somebody has to do that scoping work, before or during.

We charge half a day of scoping before any figure, deducted from the project if it goes ahead. Without it the number would be invented, and it would be revised three months later.

What we need to know

  1. 01 Which process are you tooling
  2. 02 How many concurrent users
  3. 03 Does it need to connect to an existing system

Half a day of scoping, then the figure

  1. You describe the process to be tooled, with its edge cases, however roughly. A screenshot of the spreadsheet you use today is worth three meetings.
  2. We block half a day of scoping, at your office or over video, to count screens and rules one by one.
  3. The written figure goes out within two business days of that session, cut into deliverable batches.
  4. It stays firm for thirty days, and the scoping half day comes off the project if it starts.

What we refuse to do without scoping

We do not promise a firm delivery date before the first batch. While the business rules are not written down, an announced date is a sales date and not a project date, and everybody around the table knows it.

We do not sign a fixed price on a scope that is still moving either. In that case we bill by batch, each batch delivered and paid before the next one opens.
